Matt Stuart is a British street photographer known for capturing humorous and surprising moments in everyday urban life. He was born in England in 1974 and is especially associated with street photography in London. Stuart spent many years walking the city’s streets, patiently waiting for unusual or witty situations to unfold in front of his camera. His work often focuses on coincidences, visual jokes, and the interaction between people and their surroundings. Over time he developed a reputation as one of the most recognizable contemporary street photographers.
In 2016 he published his first major book, All That Life Can Afford, which features a collection of his best street photographs taken over many years. The book received praise for its playful view of everyday life and its careful timing. Stuart later shared his experience and advice in another book, Think Like a Street Photographer. Besides publishing books, he also teaches workshops and gives talks about photography. Today, Matt Stuart continues to photograph the streets and inspire photographers with his creative approach to observing ordinary life.
