Who we are
The Brussels Street Photography Festival (“BSPF“) is a project created by Cakri ASBL, a non-profit organization based in Brussels, Belgium (“we,” “us,” “our,” and “BSPF“).
The BSPF is a cultural project whose objective is to promote street photography as an urban research tool, a form of cultural communication and a visual art. You can learn more about the BSPF on our about page.
“Personal Information” and “Personal Data” means any information that identifies or can be used to identify a visitor to our website, directly or indirectly. Examples of Personal Information include, but are not limited to, first and last name, date of birth, email address, gender, occupation, or other demographic information.
“Visitor(s)” means any person who visits any of our Websites.
“you” and “your” means a Visitor.
The BSPF processes information about its visitors and users of its website. The BSPF respects the privacy of individuals. Personal Data is handled with the utmost care and in conformity with the applicable laws and regulations on the protection of Personal Data.
This policy explains why and how the BSPF collects Personal Data, what Personal Data is collected and what the BSPF does with it. This policy applies to all data that is provided to and obtained by the BSPF, including but not limited to this website.
What Personal Data we collect and why we collect it
By visiting the BSPF website, you submit Personal Data and other information which is processed by BSPF to ensure the BSPF website performs efficiently and effectively, particularly in regard to the following:
- – Execution of our online services: registration for the Brussels Street Photography Festival contests and/or workshops, receiving information through the BSPF newsletter and/or getting in touch with us through our contact form.
- – Internal analysis: enabling the BSPF to improve its website and to identify general trends on the website and to align the content on its website to the preferences of its visitors.
- – Identification of individual preferences and performing marketing activities.
When you participate to any of the BSPF contests you are required to upload images for your application to be complete. In some cases, some or all of the images uploaded might be displayed in the BSPF website for promotional purposes, and visitors to the BSPF website can download and extract any location data from images on the BSPF website. You should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included if you do not wish visitors to get access to this information.
Contact forms and newsletter
When you contact the BSPF through its website contact forms, you are required to provide some Personal Information so the BSPF can reply to you. We collect this information only to be able to properly reply to your inquiries.
When registering to the BSPF newsletter through the BSPF website, the BSPF asks you to submit personal and/or (if applicable) professional information. The information provided is then shared and processed with an external provider, Mailchimp. For more information, see the paragraph on Mailchimp below.
Contests and workshops
To participate in the photo contests the BSPF asks you to submit your personal and professional information and all other necessary information to be able to identify and distinguish you from other participants. When needed, the BSPF will ask for payment details in order to fully register, this information is not retained by the BSPF and it is used by third party applications which manage your payment details securely.
Cookies are small text files placed automatically on your computer, tablet or mobile phone when visiting the BSPF website. Cookies are managed by your browser.
When visiting the BSPF website functional cookies are set for the duration of your browser session. These cookies are absolutely necessary for the technical operation of the website.
If you continue to use the BSPF website, further cookies will be placed on your computer, tablet or mobile phone to maximise your experience and to help BSPF understand how we can improve the BSPF website.
If you have an account and you log in to the BSPF website, the website will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no Personal Data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, the BSPF website will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no Personal Data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
On the BSPF website several links to websites of third parties can be found. The BSPF is neither responsible nor liable for the content and collection of personal data through these websites.

Who we share your data with
The BSPF uses the services of third parties in maintaining and improving the BSPF website and to store and organize data. The BSPF makes every effort to ensure that these third parties comply with strict data protection standards and regulations. The BSPF uses the services of partners which store, transfer or process the data in different countries inside and outside the European Union, the BSPF will make sure these parties provide an adequate level of data protection.
MailChimp is an online marketing platform operated by The Rocket Science Group LLC, a company headquartered in the State of Georgia in the United States. Their services enable their members to, among other things, send and manage email campaigns and serve advertisements. Mailchimp also provides other related services, such as real-time data analytics.
Stripe is a technology company. Its software allows individuals and businesses to receive payments over the Internet. Stripe provides the technical, fraud prevention, and banking infrastructure required to operate on-line payment systems. Stripe is based in San Francisco in the United States.
PayPal Holdings, Inc. is an American company operating a worldwide online payments system that supports online money transfers and serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods like checks and money orders.
The BSPF uses a standard setup of Google Analytics. In this context it does not process IP addresses, nor store information about authenticated (known user) sessions. Therefore, the information collected through Google Analytics is anonymous. The BSPF does not allow Google to use the acquired analytical data with other Google services.
Amazon Drive, formerly known as Cloud Drive, is a cloud storage application managed by Amazon. The service offers secure cloud storage, file backup, file sharing, and Photo printing.
The BSPF uses Amazon Drive to store any uploaded files when participating to the BSPF contests for backup of files purposes only. These files are not shared in any other manner with Amazon or its affiliates nor used for any reasons other than data backup.
Google Web Fonts
For uniform representation of fonts, the BSPF website uses web fonts provided by Google. When you open a page, your browser loads the required web fonts into your browser cache to display texts and fonts correctly.
For this purpose your browser has to establish a direct connection to Google servers. Google thus becomes aware that our web page was accessed via your IP address. The use of Google Web fonts is done in the interest of a uniform and attractive presentation of our website. This constitutes a justified interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) DSGVO.
If your browser does not support web fonts, a standard font is used by your computer.
How long we retain your data
The BSPF keeps your personal data no longer than necessary, except in the event of any legal obligations to keep personal data for a longer period of time.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the Personal Information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their Personal Information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
You have the right to access, correct, update and erase all data that concerns you at all times.
If you have an account on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the Personal Data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any Personal Data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you want to exercise one of your rights as mentioned above, or when you have a complaint concerning the processing of your data, the BSPF is happy to help you resolve that. Please send us your request or complaint, by using the contact details below. The BSPF will send a response within four weeks of receiving your request or complaint.
Where we send your data
With your permission the BSPF may share collected data with its partners to the extent necessary for its partners to send you promotional materials such as newsletters. The BSPF partners are expected to apply strict data protection standards. They may not use the data for any purpose other than originally intended.

How we protect your data
The BSPF maintains appropriate and adequate technical and organisational measures in an effective way in order to protect personal data against loss or any form of unauthorized processing and/or access by third parties.
If the BSPF becomes aware of any unauthorized processing and/or access to an individual’s personal data it will notify the individuals concerned at the earliest practical opportunity after it is verified that the information was actually accessed and in what way.
This website has been produced under the auspices of the Brussels Street Photography Festival. All photography and production copyrights are held exclusively by the respective creators and their representatives. No content may be copied from this website.
